Sedation Dentistry in Kelowna
Sedation Dentistry in Kelowna
If you are experiencing anxiety when going to the dentist, even for regular visits, do not worry! You are not alone! Anxiety or trepidation about the dentist is very common. Even though advancements in dental technology have drastically decreased the amount of pain experienced during treatment and increased levels of comfort, people are still afraid.
There is a solution, which we are offering, called sedation dentistry. It can help eliminate that fear entirely! During this procedure, the patient is administered a type of sedation that reduces anxiety while in the dental chair.
What Qualifies as Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry refers to the practice of dental procedures where the patient is sedated using various methods to ensure a quick and pain-free dental procedure. Sedation can range from a level where the patient is awake but calm to general anesthesia, where they are entirely unconscious. At Apple Dental Care, we help you determine the appropriate level for each patient.
There are several different types of sedation dentistry:
- Oral Sedation : Oral sedation is when the dentist uses an oral sedative pill to reduce the patient’s anxiety. Oral sedation is typically used during shorter dental procedures.
- Nitrous Oxide : Also known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is administered using a facemask connected to a regulated tank. This sedation allows the patient to relax while remaining cooperative. Nitrous oxide sedation is typically used in cases of mild to moderate anxiety. It also wears off quickly, so the patient can resume their daily activities.
